Havas bags €75m pan-Euro brief from Birds Eye parent

birds eyeNomad Foods, one of the largest frozen food companies in Europe which owns Birds Eye, Findus, iglo, Goodfella’s, Aunt Bessie’s and more, has appointed Havas as its pan-European strategic and creative agency following a competitive pitch.

The account – said to be worth €75m (£62.4m) – spans six regions the Adriatics; DACH; France, Belgium and The Netherlands; the Nordics; Southern Europe; and the UK & Ireland.

It will be led by Havas London, with support from other Havas Creative Network agencies in local markets.

The six-month pitch process was supported by Ingenuity and run in line with the ethics of the IPA and ISBA’s Pitch Positive Pledge. The incumbent was McCann London.

Nomad Foods chief marketing officder Steve Challouma said: “We’re delighted to appoint Havas as our pan-European creative partner following a thorough and highly competitive pitch process.

“In every meeting and every market, they demonstrated a compelling, long-term vision for the evolution of Nomad Foods’ brand platforms and communications, and the strategic and creative excellence to realise it.

“Our ambition is for brand communications to deliver a far bigger contribution to our business in terms of growth – and we’re confident we’ve found the perfect partner with which to achieve it.”

Havas London chief executive James Fox added: “The opportunity to work with a portfolio of such iconic, everyday brands doesn’t come around very often. The strength of this pitch list is testament to that.

“So, to say we’re thrilled Nomad Foods has chosen Havas as its pan-European partner is an understatement. In this moment, the only things greater than our excitement are the ambition we share with our new partners and the anticipation to get cracking.”

Birds Eye’s latest UK campaign was developed by Elvis and promoted its Steamfresh range of healthy meals under the strapline ‘Goodness That’s Steamy!’.

Brand ambassador “Captain Birds Eye” was nowhere to be seen as the ad features a couple pausing for a quick lunch at home, only to be interrupted by an unexected guest – the Steamfresh narrator (pictured).

Earlier this year, Birds Eye expanded the remit of Elvis from direct, digital and social to be its lead creative agency, as part of the company’s drive to streamline its UK marketing relationships to deliver “best-in-class” creative across its entire brand portfolio. However, this relationship will now come to an end following the Havas appointment.
