The Information Commissioner’s Office has started the new year with a senior recruitment drive following news that it is losing yet another top-level figure, with head of operations and deputy chief executive Simon Entwisle due to retire in the summer of 2017.
Entwisle is one of the ICO’s most experienced executives, having been involved in complaints handling since 1991. He first joined the regulator in October 2004 and throughout this time has been a member of the management board responsible for operations.
He even took over from outgoing Information Commissioner Christopher Graham in the period between him leaving and new Commissioner Elizabeth Denham taking up the role.
Last month, Denham recruited former British diplomat Rob Luke to work alongside Entwisle to help shape and implement the future of the organisation and information rights.
Now it is seeking both a new head of operations and a new deputy chief executive to succeed Entwisle.
Denham said: “In either of these senior posts, you will be a key leader within the ICO, taking a prominent role in the effective management and governance of the organisation.
“They are challenging jobs that will draw heavily on your leadership and inspiration skills; ability to influence at a time of major change; command of technical and legislative issues; and your interest in, and commitment to, the information rights agenda.
“Our work has never been so important. The ICO is the UK’s key regulator of Internet – ensuring consumer trust in data flows is fundamental to the digital economy. I have been in my post for six months – and am deeply engaged in the challenges and opportunities of data protection law reform, building new bridges with global partners, investigating data sharing between social media companies, and an organisational review to enhance our relevance in the face of massive technology, social and legislative change.”
